Filings are regulatory records
An FMCSA insurance or financial-responsibility filing is submitted by a registered filer—such as an insurance company, surety company, or financial institution—in connection with operating authority. Form codes distinguish public-liability, cargo, bond, trust-fund, and other filings.
A public filing entry documents a form submitted to FMCSA; it is not the underlying insurance policy or a complete statement of coverage terms.
How to interpret filing status
Received, effective, and cancellation dates describe different filing events. When timing is critical, verify the current filing and authority status in FMCSA’s Licensing & Insurance system. A prior filing may remain in filing history after cancellation or replacement.
What a filing does not guarantee
A filing does not guarantee that a particular loss is covered, that every policy term remains unchanged, that a carrier qualifies for new coverage, or that an insurer will accept an application. Contact FMCSA for authority questions and the carrier or its licensed insurance professional for policy questions.
